Joseph Eichler built over 100 of his first homes in a tract called Charleston Meadows, circa 1950 -1951. Generally speaking, these are typical Eichler homes for that time period. Charleston Meadows tract came with 8 modest floorplans. All of these floorplans are a small, 3 bedroom/1bath combination, and range from 1,069 to 1,374sq.ft. depending on the floorplan. This "minimalist housing" is apparent in 'upscale' Palo Alto, because this is what the median household could afford in the early 50s, and people were more than satisfied with their Eichler Homes at that time.
